JOVS IPL & BBL Technology
JOVS primarily utilizes IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology, a non-invasive optical beauty solution that accurately targets underlying skin structures. While officially labeling its core devices, like the Venus Pro II, as IPL, JOVS achieves results comparable to the more advanced BBL (BroadBand Light), which offers a wider light spectrum (typically 500–1200nm) for deeper penetration and greater versatility. The safety and efficacy of these at-home solutions are guaranteed by the use of U.S. HIPL, combined with optical filters that block UV light and unnecessary wavelengths, ensuring stable energy output through a built-in smart chip and rapid flashes (up to 0.5 seconds per shot). Unlike traditional methods such as waxing or lasers, JOVS prioritizes a painless experience, which is achieved through a sapphire-based cooling surface that instantly lowers the skin temperature to about 40°F (around 4.4°C), mitigating heat discomfort. Beyond hair removal, JOVS extends IPL into specialized treatments, such as the Acneaway device, which uses the Ultra Membrane Dual Wave Intercept Technology, combining two specific wavelength bands (400–600nm and 800–1200nm) to non-invasively address acne at its root. Furthermore, the inclusion of an SR (Skin Rejuvenation) mode leverages IPL/BBL wavelengths to enhance overall skin quality, establishing JOVS devices as a comprehensive tool for simultaneous hair removal, acne care, and general skincare.
How JOVS Technology Works on The Body
Light absorption: The device delivers broad-spectrum pulsed light. Melanin in the hair shaft rapidly absorbs this light, converting it instantly into therapeutic heat. This heat raises the temperature inside the hair follicle to approximately 60–70°C, effectively disabling growth cells without harming the surrounding skin.
Follicle deactivation: This targeted heat deactivates key structures like the hair bulb and dermal papilla. Hair naturally becomes finer and sheds over time. Consistent treatment (three times a week for the first two weeks, then less frequently) forces follicles into a resting state, leading to permanent hair reduction. The wider BBL-like spectrum provides enhanced efficacy for stubborn hair and various body zones.
Skin protection: For maximum comfort, a sapphire cooling system and smart sensors automatically calibrate energy levels based on skin type, preventing overheating. Users must shave beforehand, ensuring the light reaches the follicle directly. The treatment sensation is a gentle, warm flash, free from burning or irritation.

Most common skin types and hair colors are suitable for the devices (best results seen with dark blonde to black hair). However, we do not recommend use on very light blonde, red, or grey hair, or on very dark skin tones (Type VI). Crucially, the dedicated acne devices are safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and require no downtime.
